Towns

20 mins from Nutkin Lodge, the township of Walpole awaits with many culinary delights in local restaurants, IGA, butcher, visitors centre, river cruises, jetty fishing, walk trails and many more treasures.

40 mins East will take you through some lovely scenery and past numerous attractions between Nutkin Lodge and Denmark. When there, visit Super IGA, butcher, local artisans, fashion shops, award winning bakeries, restaurants, wineries and more.
Walpole Wilderness

Accessed via Nut Road adjacent to Nutkin Lodge, this stunning lookout is almost 300 degrees of pleasure. Viewed best at sun rise as the sun glints off the beach, inlet and farm dams and most beautiful when the coastal blanket mist rolls off the terrain and back into the ocean during foggy mornings in winter. It is truly a sight to behold.

Marvel at the amazing Red Tingle Trees in our Walpole Wilderness National Park a few moments from Nutkin Lodge.

Walk amongst the trees at the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk in the Walpole Wilderness

Whilst at the Tree Top Walk visit the Ancient Empire Walk and not only meander through the canopies but stand within a tree itself and feel what it's like to be a critter in the woods.

Journey out for an adventure to discover the wonders of the Giant Tingle, Circular Pool, The Swarbrick Art Loop, Fernhook Falls and more

Visit artisan interpretations within the Swarbrick Art Loop - look high - look low - find the puppy and see how you look on the Wall of Perception.

Also called the Cappuccino Strip - these stunning rapids descend into a bowl of froth during the winter months when rainfall is high. A lovely place for a family picnic or an artist render.

A lovely day trip can encompass Fernhook Falls, the Swarbrick Art Loop, Circular Pool, The Giant Tingle Tree, Ficifolia Flora Drive, Conspicuous Cliff, Peaceful Bay and Wineries during your stay.

Nutkin Lodge is nestled within the heart of the Ficifolia Tree Belt where this beautiful Red Flowering Gum is endemic (native) to only 5 square kilometres in the world. Although harvested and propagated throughout, this is the only area this plant grows natively and can naturally hybridise with other Australian plant species. It is also the only plant that has flowers growing outside its canopy leaf line. The flowers can range from a pearly white through to a deep blood red.

Catalogue or marvel in the diversity of the South West wild flower displays in and out of season.

Gently trek along Lucia's Trail or in the national park during orchid season to see the dazzling colours on display from Purple Wax to Cowslips and rare beauties near the Tree Top Walk.

Beaches & Rivers

Whales travel the South West coast twice a year both to and from their calving grounds. You can see these amazing creatures swimming in pods from Peaceful Bay and Conspicuous Cliff.

Bibbulmun Track intersection, Surfing, Fishing, Whale Watching, Geo-tourism and more can all be found less than 6 mins from your door.

Feeding into Conspicuous Cliff this lovely waterway provides a safe haven for family picnics and play time.

Irwin inlet, Frankland River, Bow River, Kent River, Kwokalup Creek and numerous other tributaries flow along the coastal landscape. Many reaching beaches nearby. A great place for exploration and fun.

Tracks & Trails

NL is located centrally to many tracks n trails in the Valley's region. Please select link to view AndiMap's diverse trails between Walpole and Denmark.

A short ride the Munda Biddi Trail - head towards Walpole or Denmark or stop off at Nutkin Lodge in between.

Journey 2 mins walk to reach the Bibbulmun Track - discover the Nut Road Lookout, Conspicuous Cliff, Rame Head, the Tree Top Walk and more.

An undulating stroll from Nutkin Lodge will lead you to a lovely Heritage Trail walk through farming and hinterland where you can loop back to your home before lunch.

On the skirts of Denmark, the Harewood Forest is only one of many tracks and trails leading through the South West area. Can you trek them all? :)

There are two in the Denmark region - one on the way to town and one in the town centre. Try them both - it certainly is well worth the wait.

Family Fun and Activites

There's always a great spot for a picnic.

Bring a book or e-reader and take a moment for yourself. We have a reading library available with soft cover and digital books. Alternatively the Walpole and Denmark Public Libraries are close at hand.

Peaceful Bay is a wonderful and safe place for children to discover tide pools, rock crabs, build sandcastles and more.

Some fantastic swell is around for surfers of all levels. Conspicuous Beach and Ocean Beach is recommended as is some of the more isolated beaches on the Peaceful Bay headlands.

Bring your gear and catch some dinner. Or outsmart the big boys when the salmon are running in early April each year.

Always a great adventure to trek and ride on the many trails available.

The Frankland River and coal Mine Beach provide wonderful areas to canoe and swim.

Taste the Great Southern is but one of the many festivals held in the region.

A great day out for the family from granny to the wee cherub. Pat and feed everything from a chick to the giant bison. Even cuddle a Koala. And for the parents, a cafe to enjoy a few moments.

A few minutes up the road is the Dinosaur World and Bird Park. View dinosaur bones, chat with the parrots and try a little snake handling.
